Do you have one of those pieces of kitchen equipment that you only use when you have to? For me, it’s a mandolin. It’s difficult to clean, it’s awkward to use, and every time I touch it, I think I’m going to end up with one less finger by the time I’m finished. Of course, the fact that I have a cheap (in the negative sense of the word) mandolin probably has more than a little to do with it. Regardless, I seldom get it out – unless I absolutely have to.
We went to a party this weekend. One of us (not me) ended up having a little too much fun and was paying for it the next day. I hate days like that. I can certainly empathize with anyone who wakes up because they hear the ants crawling outside the bedroom window (I’ve been there once or twice myself). In an effort to combat the remnants of an exciting evening, Don had requested something starchy but light for dinner (yes, he was still not himself by dinner time – he thought it was a really good party). Recipe: Mushroom and Rosemary Potato Torta
Gorgeous and lovely simple dish. Potatoes are funny.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great vegetarian dish for a party! So very simple but creative and hardy too. :)
ReplyDeleteVery nice lighter fare.

Love the look of the mushrooms piled up on the top of the torta.
ReplyDeleteLove potatoes. Love mushrooms. This looks wonderful!
ReplyDeleteLooks delicious! I love crispy potatoes.
ReplyDeleteThis looks awesome! I'm currently in the middle of a love affair with Thomas Keller's potato cakes and this sounds similar but just different enough that I may have to give it a go :)
ReplyDeleteNow that is a beautiful torta, salad was the perfect accompaniment ....I do love working with my mandoline, but your right I hate to get it out....I think I need to be professionally trained to use it, I know it could do so much more!
ReplyDeleteThat looks great! Yummy!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my, this looks too good. I love potatoes, I love mushrooms, I love rosemary, therefore this is getting made VERY SOON. Delicious!

Looks scrumptious!
ReplyDeleteIt is a gorgeous torta. Curious as to whether it helped your husband though. :)
ReplyDeleteYes :)
ReplyDeleteOh, how delicious that looks! I love my mandolin! Except, I've not used any other components that it came with besides the slicer that is already on there. Apparently, it comes with doodads ;-) I'll have to try this recipe out when I get off my no-carbs/starch kick that I just started!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? No carbs and no starch?! Then what's the point of living?
ReplyDeleteI too suffer from mandolinphobia
ReplyDeleteYour headline made me laugh and it made me click on over from Foodbuzz. Well done. And that tort looks pretty nice too.
ReplyDeleteIt's got potatoes, it's got mushies... it's got everything! And hey - toss the mandolin and get a good food processor with a slicing attachment. Mine even sliced paper-thin wafers of fresh oranges for marmalade yesterday!
